Origin of the Project

The primary school teachers and the parent /teacher association of Fodécariah en haute Guinée  have joined a number of psychologists and physicians from Germany to mount this project.

In 2005, I traveled to Fodécariah in Guinée, a village of 11,000 habitants where my husband was born, and met the Principal (Mr. Oularé) and teachers of this unique school. They teach 520 students from kindergarden to grade 6. Following a thorough and lengthy assessment of their needs, it became clear that the most urgent issue facing the town after the lack of drinking water, was the absence of secondary school education.

The closest secondary school is located 60 km from the village and not accessible given the lack of transportation. Accordingly, the teachers and parents voiced their wish to alleviate this problem by building a school in the village.

When I returned to Germany, I attempted to convince a number of humanitarian organizations to support this project, but our efforts were in vain. Having the support of my friends and colleagues, I took the initiative to create a non profitable organization in 2007.

The goal of our organization is to finance the construction of a “semi professional” secondary school, which would include ten classes, a room for the teachers, a library, a biology classroom, a Physics/Chemistry classroom as well as an IT classroom. The professional school would have training workshops with the necessary equipment. This school would also have a cafeteria to ensure that the students receive at least one hot meal per day. Knowing that the village of Fodecariah does not have drinking water and no electric power station, we will complete the project by installing a powerful solar system as well as drilling a well with a powerful pump.
